How scouting has changed my life

Image
From a young age there has always been some element of scouting in my life. When I was young it was when my dad and my brothers were off out on camping trips leaving mum and me to have some quality time together or when I myself decided to give girls guides a bash. Even when I got older I often went on hikes and to den nights with my dad, simply as an onlooker but when I turned 16 and I wanted to complete my Gaisce everything began to change. What started out as working with the beavers once a week, colouring some pictures and doing some arts and crafts soon developed into something more, programme planning, camping and outdoor activities. Starting at 16 I didn’t have much of a role, but as I got older my role change and naturally as I turned 18 it was time for me to make a decision, begin my training to become a scout leader or just be a youth member myself. I chose to begin my journey to become a scout leader. Not quiet sure what I was getting myself into I began my training, sl...

Every Monday night I go to scouts for about an hour and a half. Yeah you’re wondering why I might be telling you this..... Well I do have a reason. I have been involved in scouts for a number of years helping out and last year I decided to join the venture scouts. Since then I have become a lot more involved in the beaver scouts. I have helped out for a while but I never really did much but no with the help of Kellie and Robbie when my dad (he is meant to be the section leader.) feels like pitching in I act as a leader. When I am old enough I plan to become a leader but I have to be 18 for that so another little while to go but I will get there eventually.  So the main reason I am writing this post is to show how important it is to get involved in the community. I love going to scouts every Monday.... I get to have fun and the beavers get to have fun and the best part is I can act like an idiot and nobody will care! We do badge work, play games, sing songs well that’s a bit m...

Siobhán do you have a plaster?

So I have just spent my weekend gong from Celbridge up to Larch hill. I went up on Friday for the start of the 2011 county camp. I decided not to stay over so that I would be able to get my homework done and because I didn’t really want to stay over. I headed up to Larch Hill on Friday around five where I gathered up all of the beavers from 19 th Kildare salesains and we started to try and figure out how to put up a tent. I was so glad to find out that I only had to set up one tenet and that was my dad’s so if that blew away it was ok..... The beaver’s tents were all ready set up. Me and Adam one of the beavers put up my dad’s tent, and it only took us about half an hour..... I thought that was pretty good. After that we didn’t do much and I soon went home after fighting with Adam about why I wasn’t staying over and after I got covered in grass with it stuck in pockets, my hood and down my top. So I went home and got a good night’s sleep and most of my homework done. I’m not the b...
