Helping others

Every so often you are introduced to a person who wants to do something good in their life. Many people do things for their benefit but then there are others who want to do something from others. Meg Kelly is one of those people.

Meg will be doing a sky dive in the next coming weeks in aid of Pieta house. Meg is a 1st year Business and Law Student in DIT Aungier Street.  Meg has put aside her wants to help the needs of others. She has set aside time to raise money for pieta house which will in turn benefit the lives of many people who are currently struggling with thoughts of self-harm.

Many of you are aware of the tradition that takes place in colleges across the world known as RAG week. RAG (Raising And Giving) week is centred around a number of events to raise money for the colleges chosen charity and this year DIT really pushed the week hard so that they could achieve outstanding funds raised for their chosen charity. The chosen RAG charity of the year is Pieta House an amazing centre for the prevention of self-harm and suicide. The work that these people do would blow you away and the charity is going from strength to strength but like any other charity out there they need as much help and support as possible.

Meg has actually been fundraising for them for a number of years. This year she has decided to make her RAG charity week '13 a memorable one and do the charity sky dive!  Her jump is taking place on the 29th March (fingers crossed with the weather) in the Irish Parachute Club in Co. Offaly As it is a sponsored jump she needs all the support she can get and the support so far has been incredible! People have gone above and beyond to help her and this amazing cause! Because of the scale of this event the fundraising target for the event in quite high, 520 euro.

She has the last two hundred to go and she needs our help to get there. As this is not only an amazing and brave thing to do for charity the work this charity does is also amazing and saves the lives of many young people all around the country. Most of her fundraising has been done through word of mouth and given to her but she has set up an online account on the donation website for anyone who can’t meet up with her but would like to donate (

So although times are hard and money may be tight just remember that Pieta house offers services FREE of charge and the money raised can do so much to help that charity. I know I will be donating some money in the coming days…. Will you donate too?
