Christmas Hoildays

So at last it almost Christmas time. We had a few exams to do before we finished for the holidays but they weren’t too bad. We only had five and most of them were ok. As long as I pass everything I will be happy. The whole school got their holidays too. The transition years were getting off a few days before the rest of the school but because of the bad weather the whole school closed on Tuesday. But at least we have our exams done and over with and we don’t have to worry about them over the Christmas.
We were meant to be going bowling today but that got cancelled because the weather is so bad with all of the snow and that. But its ok Mrs L told us that we would be going after Christmas in January so at least we will get to do it. And it gives us something to look forward too.
Merry Christmas. I hope everybody has a good Christmas and enjoys the snow.  :)

Another fun filled month over.

So over the past month we have done lots of different things.
We done our first cooking class in home ec. We made cookies. This was a surprise because our class didn’t know that we would be cooking. Anyway we got to class and Mrs Mc A had everything all ready for use. She had all the ingredients that we would need to make the cookies. First of all we had to get partners. I was partners with emer. Then we gathered all of our equipment that we would need and then we gathered all of the ingredients that we would also need. Then once everybody had got all of their equipment and their ingredients we were allow to star. We were shown what to do and then we were allowed to go ahead and do everything ourselves. There wasn’t that much that you have to do to make them they are pretty simple. We made 6 all together and we each got three of them.

In double pe and we started Pilates. The other class were doing it with us too because the dance teacher was not able to get to the school because of the bad weather. I was looking forward to starting it but it was not something that I really thought that I would like. But it was really good. It was a bit strange because it was so quiet like it was really quiet. I didn’t know that our class was able to go the quiet. The Pilates teacher was really nice too .We started off by doing simple things and learning to breath and that sort of thing. The double class went really quick I didn’t even notice how quick it went. It was really hard to. I didn’t think that it would be as hard as it was. There were a lot of stretches and things that we had to do. One of them we had to keep our arms up for a bit and it really hurt you arms. The Pilates are really fun but they are also really hard. For the second class we had it was just Amina while the other class was in the hall doing dancing. We have one more week left of the Pilates and we will be having that after that after out Christmas break. We done most of the same exercises that we done last week but we also did other ones this week. The ones that we did this week were harder. The teacher is really really nice and she is very friendly. She let us do things at our own pace and didn’t make us do anything that we felt that we couldn’t do.
We had a dress up day. The theme was Christmas and there were no specific themes for each year’s so people just dressed up as anything that they wanted to be. Some of the costume was really good. We each had to pay two euro and then all of the money that would be raised would be going to the care f the age charity. The cheque with all of the money is going to be presented to the care of the age charity at the carol service next Friday. Each class got to send one person from their class to go to the hall at lunch time to be n the parade. Form our class Chloe and Ruth went. They were dressed as the coca cola truck. They looked really good. Then we also sent he people who dressed us as the Nativity scene go down as well. Most people dressed up as presents which was really funny watching them trying to do things. For the tys the winners were Ruth and Chloe and they deserved it. It looked like they put a lot of effort into the costume and it looked really good.
We made key rings in tech. And well mine is not going to well. In h beginning I didn’t think that they would be too hard to make I really didn’t. Then we started to make them. The first bit was easy when we were drawing the shape of the key ring onto the piece of plastic. Drilling the hole was also easy but after that thins just went downhill for me. Things just kept getting worse. We were told that we had to saw and filet to make it into the shape that it was meant to be. It’s meant to be a kind of circle shape. A small circle at the top and a big circle at the bottom. And well mine isn’t even round. So when realised that it was not working the way that it was meant to be I asked for some help and even with the help I was given I still couldn’t get it to go to the right shape. And every time that I was filing it I was told that I was filing wrong. Until today I didn’t know that there was a wrong way to file things. I guess you do learn something new every day.  Did manage to finish mine despite it being a bit out of shape I got there in the end. I think that it safe to say that tech is not the subject for me.....

We had our long awaited fashion show. We spent the last few weeks designing and making our outfits in home ec and today was the day that we all got to show off our finished products. We had our fashion show for the last two classes for today. We all went to the changing room at lunch so that everybody could get ready. There were different prizes for different groups. The group that I was in was one of the groups that one a prize. We won a tin of roses... :) The fashion show started at two o clock when everybody was good to good and all of the people that were watching had seats. We went in an order. Aoife the model for our group was the fifth person to go. While Aoife was walking I was talking about the dress and our inspiration and Eimear and Ruth were showing the mood board to the judges. Aoife walked to the song “beautiful red rose” by Frank Sinatra. The dresses all looked amazing and you could see that a lot of time and effort was out into all of the dresses and the different mood boards. While the judges were deciding on the winners we got a chance to listen to some music and take some photos of all of the dresses and the models. Then the winners were announced and the whole group went up to receive their prize. We all also got told the reasons as to why the judges felt that we deserved to win a prize.
Some tys did some bag packing for the Irish cancer society in Tesco. I and Kellie also managed to get a few fifth years to come along and help out. We were meant to start at four but for the people who came to my house to get changed we started late. We got off to a bit of a bumpy start when we got to my house and I was locked out. After I found out that Mandy had my keys and that my dad was on his way things weren’t so bad. Once we got into the hose we all got chanced and ready to go back to Tesco. We got to Tesco about fifteen minutes late which wasn’t too bad at all. We didn’t start when we got there wither we had to wait for a while. We were waiting for other people to come. When everybody was there we were given t shirts and we all got partners and went off to different tills to do some bag packing. I didn’t really do much work I really just went around taking photos of everybody bag packing. At the end of the day we got a group photo of all of the tys that went to help. It was a really good day. In the beginning Kellie and me were asked to sit at the table and try to sell some tickets to the people that were coming in. In the beginning it was a bit slow but after we managed to get Mr. C to buy a ticket things started to pick up. We would swap around the people sitting at the table. But I have to say that Alison Stephanie and Karen did a great job at selling the tickets. It was a really good day. I think that everybody that went learned a bit more about each person that was there. Because Kellie’s mam and dad work in Tesco she knows most of the people that work there. This was good because we could have a laugh and stuff with them. When me and Kellie noticed that some things kept coming flying to the till that we were at we thought hat Lauren and Aoife G were throwing things at us. But it wasn’t it was the man on the checkout that was working with Lauren and Aoife G. It was really funny when I tried to fling the elastic band back but I didn’t really work..... :) It was also funny when I got the fright of my life when the security guard decided to scare me. We finished up at seven. Me and Kellie emptied all of the money from the buckets on the tills into one and then we tidied away everything and we were all set to head home for the nigh. It was a really good day and I know that it is weird saying that I enjoyed bag packing but I did it was really good fun.... :) we did two days of bag packing overall and it was really good I have to say.  :D.
We had a religion craft class. We started making wall hangings for Christmas and advent. The class was divided into two different groups depending on what you wanted to do. For the advent wall hanging it is going to be made use fabric and for the Christmas wall hanging it is going to be made on canvas and different pictures painted onto it. We were show different wall hangings from other years and we were told that the standard was very high. We didn’t need to be told this as it was very clear from just looking at the wall hanging. Today was our first day doing it and everybody had brought in things that they thought might be useful. But we didn’t really start it today once we had split into four groups we then planned what we were going to put on each of them. I am working in the group that is making the wall hanging for advent and we are using different fabrics and things like that to make our wall hanging. It is really good fun and we all got a chance to say what we thought would look good and what we think should be done. I am really enjoying it and when we start make it them it should be even more fun.
We had a ty breakfast…. :) we had a Christmas breakfast hosted by class Emnet. We had if for the first class and it went into a few minutes into the other class. We had a really good time. There was lots of food and hot chocolate and marshmallows and sweets and things like that. It was a great morning. Everybody had great fun and they all got lots of food. There was music and it was a brilliant morning. Mrs L got us started signing to some songs and then it just went from there. Mrs. L got really into things as well she even started off a Congo line. We took some pictures of Mrs. L dancing but I don’t think that she would be too pleased with us if we were to put them on the internet. The breakfast was Christmas themed and there was dancing teddies on the tables in the second year mall. They were quiet annoying at one point too but it was all good fun. Things did get a bit loud but it was all a bit of fun and there wasn’t any trouble. If was also a good chance for the two T.Y classes to get a chance to get to know each other a bit better. Since Emnet got a chance to do something for class Amina we have to do something for them. Breakfast was great fun today very loud but fun. This year has been great so far and things are still getting better. We have done so much all ready and we have still got more things to do.
Today we had our annual carol service in school. This year it was different because we didn’t have Sr S like all of the other years. But this year Mr K was in charge and it was amazing. I was late it school so I missed the start and I was not able to go up to sign with the choir but I didn’t mind too much. I didn’t miss much of it. There were awards given to some of the people that did really well in their junior cert and other awards given out to people who have done well in the different school sports. The tys were singing in the choir as well. We spent the week and a half before it preparing for the carol service. The carol service was really good and very alive. At the end of the carol service for the last song the choir sang band aid feed the word. Some of the teachers went up to the choir to sing as well and it was really good. This year’s carol service was really good and just brilliant all together can’t wait until next year’s carol service now.
Some people from the school choir and some of the T.Y's went to the orchard to sing some Christmas carols to help raise money for focus Ireland. We were told about it about two weeks ago and the T.Y’s were asked if they would come and sing as well. I decided that I would go because it was for a good cause and it would be a bit of fun. It wasn’t for too long it was only from one until three and it was a bit of fun too. The choir was very small today and there was only a hand full of T.Ys but there was enough people to make a good sound so the people would be able to hear us. We were standing up stairs in the orchard at the front so that people were able to see. We also had a banner on the railing so that people knew who we were. Once we had managed to get the banner the right way round we started off singing. As the day went on the choir got bigger and bigger, some people came late and then some of the teachers came to sing with us as well. Some of the teachers also brought their children and then helped us even more. It was a good day overall and we got to keep the yellow hats that we were given to wear. It is starting to feel more and more like Christmas now.
We had a few Christmas exams to do before we finished for the Christmas holidays but they weren’t too bad. The whole school finished early for the Christmas holidays because of the snow and bad weather. Looking forward to Christmas but also looking forward to going bowling when we go back to school after the holidays.

What’s good about Transition Year?

So I thought that I might blog about all of the good things in T.Y. And well there is plenty. Some people think that T.Y is all about doing nothing and having a doss and well it’s not really. It’s a fun year and it really enjoyable but there is a lot of work.
There are ton of projects that need to be done and some of them are for grades like for Christmas. I know that some people hate the projects but I would rather go home and do a project than hour and hours of homework every night. But on the plus side lots of the projects are done in groups and it gives you a chance to get to know new people. And it’s fun too. I know that I sound like such a nerd saying this but the projects are really fun.
The competitions are also good. At the start of the year you enter lots of different competitions. They are really just different projects that are entered into different competitions. We entered lots of different competitions like the young scientist and the F1 in schools challenge. And then there’s the mini company competition too.
The trips out of school. Even if there for school things like mini company they are still really fun. There not just all about work. We get to have fun too. We have also gone to the state labs and things like that. They were fun but they were also serious as well.
Things like dancing Pilates and rugby were really fun too. It was a great chance to get to try something new. I really enjoyed the rugby and I didn’t think that I would. In T.Y you learn so much about yourself too. For the rugby we had six weeks of it and then there is a blitz. But that got cancelled because of the snow but we were told that it will go ahead after the Christmas holidays.
All the different workshops too that we have are really good. The best one that I think we have had so far this year was the podcasting workshop. This was brilliant and really fun. Two men came in and talked to us about podcasting and then we got a chance to work in groups to make our own podcasts. It was really fun.
Another thing that is really good about transition year is getting a chance to try new subjects. We do most of the subjects and it gives us a chance to try and experience new things that we might want to do next year. It is a lot of work and can be sometimes hard to keep up with everything that is going on in all of the different subjects but you get use to it really quickly. It is really fun too.
There just some f the things that are really good about T.Y. You learn so much about yourself too. And if you’re a really quiet person and shy you start to feel more comfortable in yourself. I should know I was like that at the beginning of the year. But now I feel that I can talk to more people and some people might not have noticed any change but I have. It’s also a chance to make new friends and I think that’s the best bit of T.Y.

Singing at the orchard.

Today some people from the school choir and some of the T.Y's went to the orchard to sing some Christmas carols to help raise money for focus Ireland.
It starting to feel more and more like Christmas now.
If only we didn’t have to do Christmas tests next week.....

Carol Service.

Today we had our annual carol service in school. This year it was different because we didn’t have Sr S like all of the other years. But this ear Mr K was in charge and it was amazing. This year’s carol service was really good and just brilliant all together can’t wait until next year’s carol service now.

Key rings... Finished at last... :D

At last I finished my key ring. After around three weeks working on it I finally finished. When I saw the finished product from the other classes I thought it would be easy to make and well I was really wrong. When we were marking it all out it was pretty simple. Drilling the hole in the top of it was also easy but after that it just went downhill for me.
I really just kept filing it trying to get it into the shape that it was meant to be in but that didn’t really work for me. I was told that I was filing it wrong and to be honest I didn’t know that there was a right and a wrong way to file things so I guess you do learn something new each day. I did manage to finish it despite it being a bit out of shape. We are making clocks next and considering I gave up on my key ring I don’t know how I am going to manage t make a clock.

Pilates.

Today we had another double pe class and we had Pilates again. The Pilates are really fun but they are also really hard. Today it was just class Amina while the other class were in the hall doing dancing.
I am enjoying the Pilates but they are really hard. But it was good to get a chance to start something new.

Breakfast for Amina.. :)

Today we had a Christmas breakfast hosted by class Emnet. We had if for the first class and it went into a few minutes into the other class. We had a really good time. There was lots of food and hot chocolate and marshmallows and sweets and things like that. It was a great morning. Everybody had great fun and they all got lots of food. There was music and it was a brilliant morning.

Breakfast was great fun today very loud but fun.
This year has been great so far and things are still getting better. We have done so much all ready and we have still got more things to do. Next week we are going bowling and then we have our Christmas break.

Another Day.

Well today was yet another good day of T.Y. today Kellie told me that over the weekend we raised 2,600 euro for the Irish Cancer society while we were bag packing and selling tickets. Well done to everybody who helped out over the weekend.
Today I had double home Ec. We started by cleaning which I didn’t really understand why we had to clean the things that were all ready clean. But any way we did it and it wasn’t half bad. Then we got to watch a show about food and supermarkets and how they process food. It was king of interesting. We got to see like the science behind the things that are sold in the shops that are all ready cooked and things like that.
We had choir practice for two class so that we would be ready for Friday. This was fun I guess I don’t really like to sing but it was something new. We did have fun and after choir practice Louise stayed away from me for the rest of the day. I think I might have annoyed her a bit..... :)
In Pe we played bench ball and it was really fun everybody seemed to enjoy it. When we finished we did some skipping for the last few minutes of the class and it was really fun.
Tomorrow we have the T.Y breakfast that the other class are holding for us. It should be fun.   :)

Religion Craft.

Today we had a religion craft class. We started making wall hangings for Christmas and advent. The class was divided into two different groups depending on what you wanted to do. For the advent wall hanging it is going to be made use fabric and for the Christmas wall hanging it is going to be made on canvas and different pictures painted onto it.

I am really enjoying it and when we start make it them it should be even more fun.

History Project.

Tomorrow our history project is due. This project is for our Christmas result. We had around six weeks to do it. We were assigned it the week before we went on our work experience. We had to do it on a place where we have family. For my project I did it on Celbridge. I wrote about loads of different things in Celbridge and I found out so much that I didn’t know all ready about Celbridge. I really enjoyed doing the project too. I finished mine last week so all I was doing to do was going back over it making sure everything was ok in it. I’m just glad that it is done now.

Bag packing day 2

Today we were bag packing again in Tesco. We started early today at ten and finished a 6. Me and Kellie were the first people here followed by the three Niamhs and Oriana. We then divided up into two group’s people doing the bag packing and the people selling the raffle tickets. M ad Kellie was selling the tickets first. Ruth arrived at 11 so we had more people to bag pack. We switched between people working on the desk selling tickets and people packing bags. By one a clock it was time for a break. And some people we finished their shifts. Kellie and I went for a quick break in the canteen while Lauren worked at selling the tickets. We would have got back from lunch quicker but we got a but confuse trying to find our way back down we made it eventually. Or a while it was just me Kellie and Lauren but then we got more help form Leah Alibhe Jessica and Michelle.

At this point we were really glad for the help that we got and soon after that Roisin p came along too. We also got help from one the fifth years today and we were really great full for that too. Most people finished up at four but because we were the only people we decided that we would stay for a bit longer. We stayed until six but we had given up on the bag packing at that stage and we were just trying to sell the tickets.

At the start of the day we were given a tin of sweets to share with all of the people that helped so they stayed at the table and everybody helped themselves to them as they wanted them. The sugar kept us going all day long. So after tidying away the table and chairs and collecting all of the buckets it was time to head home. It was a good weekend over all and it was really fun too. Thanks to everybody that gave up their time to cm and help us we really appreciated it.

Bag Packing Day one.

Today was the first day of the bag packing for the Irish cancer society in Tesco.
Today I didn’t really do much work I really just went around taking photos of everybody bag packing. At the end of the day we got a group photo of all of the tys that went to help. It was a really good day. In the beginning Kellie and me were asked to sit at the table and try to sell some tickets to the people that were coming in. In the beginning it was a bit slow but after we managed to get Mr C to buy a ticket things started to pick up.

Bag Packing.

So during the week me and Kellie noticed a letter on the T.Y notice board. It was about volunteering to do some bag packing in Tesco to help raise some money for the Irish Cancer Society. Kellie and me decided that we wanted to do it. So Kellie then went to Mrs L and asked her about it. She gave her a phone number of a person to contact. So after school Kellie rang this person and Kellie informed me that she was really nice. She said that it was great that we were going to volunteer but that she still needed some more people.
So me and Kellie decided that we would ask around both of the Ty classes. Kellie did most of the asking but I did help too. When we didn’t get a huge response from the tys we then decided that we would ask some of the fifth years that we knew. And well the response from them wasn’t much better but we did get a few volunteers to come on the Friday and some to come on the Saturday. For both of the days we got about twenty people all together and we were happy enough with that because w did the best that we could.

Fashion Show..... :)

Today we had our fashion show. :)
The fashion show started at two o clock when everybody was good to good and all of the people that were watching had seats.

Key rings...

Well today we had double tech and we were doing some more work on our key rings. And well ne is not going to well.

I think that it safe to say that tech is not the subject for me.....

Christmas dress up.

Today we had a dress up day.
